Perched on a hill overlooking the Ionian coast, the Borgo di Condojanni is one of those places that seem suspended in time, where every stone, every alley and every glimpse of the horizon tells an ancient and authentic story.
This ancient medieval centre was once the beating heart of the territory's agricultural and social life, preserving a heritage of rural architecture, small churches and remains of fortifications that speak of a past of nobility and resistance. Its origins date back to the Byzantine and Norman periods, and can still be felt today among the stone houses, carved portals and arches overlooking valleys of olive trees.
The fulcrum of the village is the castle of Condojanni, of Norman origin, built between the 11th and 12th centuries. By visiting its fascinating ruins, you can immerse yourself in a fragment of history, arriving at a vantage point from which you can admire the surrounding area.
As a symbol of resistance, Condojanni has recently been the subject of cultural enhancement projects, hosting artistic events, historical re-enactments and initiatives dedicated to handicrafts and traditional cuisine. All this, welcomed by a local population that is deeply attached to its identity and warmly welcomes visitors, sharing stories, legends and traditions with them.
