The Affruntata

The Affruntata is a suggestive and intense religious representation that takes place on Easter Sunday in the ancient village of Condojanni, a hamlet of Sant'Ilario dello Ionio. The symbolic scene of the encounter between the Madonna, the Risen Jesus and Saint John takes place in the alleys and square of the village, accompanied by band music, prayers and a choral participation of the community. During the ceremony, the statues of the three protagonists are carried in procession through the streets of the village, culminating in an emotional meeting that represents the joy of the Resurrection. It is a moment of faith and popular identity, combining the sacred, tradition and the living memory of the territory.
